Miami ’s airport and seaport show growth
Among the bright markets for MIA were Brazil , which saw 110 percent growth in cargo tonnage, and Asia , which was up 54 percent, said José Abreu, director of the Miami-Dade Aviation Department.
MIA’s air trade is valued at around $40 billion, accounting for 97 percent of the state’s trade transported by air. The airport, Abreu said, accounts for 282,000 jobs and $26.7 billion in business revenue.
Cargo traffic at the port was up about 5 percent in fiscal 2010 and the port hopes to see double-digit cargo growth this fiscal year, said Johnson.
