Brazil’s railroad freight transportation handled 246,869 containers and more than 471 million tons in 2010.  19.1% higher than in 2009. Investments in the sector amounted to US$ 2.98 billion in 2010. The country would currently has 28.000 km of railways and needs 52.000 km. Between the years 2011 to 2020, the expectation is to get two thousand locomotives, 40 000 cars and 1.5 million tons of tracks, demonstrating the increasing modernization of the sector.
