General Motors of Brazil will have new engine plant in Santa Catarina - SIS4Biz - BBDO focus region

General Motors of Brazil announced the construction of its new engine plant in Joinville (SC), the company responsible for the 'turn key' construction is Cesbe S. A. Engineering a company based in the state of Parana and subsidiary in Santa Catarina (SC), scheduled to begin work in March 2011with inauguration is planned for 2012 with a total investment amounted to R$ 350 million. The location choice was due to excellent infrastructure, enough qualified manpower and proximity to five ports.

Brazil News:
  • In the south of Brazil, when the new roads are finished, Hamburg Sud will have its new port of Itapoá in operation with 52 feet of natural draft after March, 2011. An expected average of 30 vessels should call the new port every month with a projected volume of 120 thousand containers for the first year.
  • Advent International, a global private equity company, has recently purchased 50% of one of the main terminals, TCP – Terminal de Containers de Paranaguá, (in the state of Paraná, with Curitiba as its capital).  The new investment will allow TCP to build a third pier and increase capacity by about 70%.

  • Brazil’s Secretary of the Ports’ Minister, Leônidas Cristino, said this week that the Federal Government will invest R$ 3,8 billion (approximately US$ 2.2 billion) in improvements in port infrastructure in the country during the next few years.
  • Transpetro, announced it started a new tender in late December for an additional eight ships for Petrobras. National and International companies have until February 23 to submit their proposals. The bidding process should be completed by the end of June.
